Make money with Google Adsense

Here you’ll find tried and tested tips for making money with Google Adsense. So – what is Adsense? And how much money can you earn from it?

Adsense basics

Apply to Adsense – get your code – see ads on your website’s pages
If you have a website, you can apply to the Google Adsense program. Adsense generates a piece of code that you simply paste into pages on your website. The code generates text advertisements that appear on your pages – these are the “Ads by Google” that you see on so many pages around the web.

If you have a page all about how to make home made soap, ads will appear that are all about home made, natural or organic soaps, for example.

If you’ve written a review of your favorite mobile phone game, you might see ads about mobile games, ringtones, and other mobile products.

Your site visitors click on an ad – you make money
Yes – it’s an amazing thing, but people do actually click on Google ads, and each click will bring you in anything from a few cents to a dollar or more.

This might not sound like very much money to you – but with enough pages, and enough traffic, it is possible to earn hundreds or thousands of dollars a month, and many webmasters are making money with Google Adsense simply by building sites with lots of pages of great content, each with Google ads featured somewhere on each page.

Your Adsense earnings depend on many things, such as:

  • How much traffic you get
  • How many of your visitors click on ads
  • How much each click is worth
  • Where you put the ads on your pages

How much money can you earn from Adsense?

A great site + lots of traffic = better Adsense earnings!
Making money with Google Adsense is a logical process. If you’re enthusiastic about your website topic, you’ll be able to think of lots of interesting pages to write. Google loves good content sites, and you’ll find that you get visitors coming to your pages from Google or Yahoo!, for example.

The more traffic you get, the merrier! You can put Adsense ads on your pages, and a percentage of your visitors will click through. Google Adsense gives you a lot of tips about how to put Adsense on your site, and how to put it on your page in a way that will attract clicks.

Important: Never click on your own ads, by the way; and never ask others to do so. You can get banned from Adsense for doing this – then you won’t earn anything. Make sure you read the Adsense Terms and Conditions carefully, and make sure your site is “Adsense compliant” before you apply.

What you’ll experience once you’ve joined up:

  • You’ll find that some pages don’t get many ad clicks. You can adjust the position and appearance of your ads and test them out to see if you get a better click through rate. You get reporting tools from Adsense so that you can see just how each ad or each page is doing.
  • Other pages get better click through rates – maybe 15%, 20%, or even over 30% of your visitors click on an ad.
  • You will earn different amounts for each click. Sometimes you might only get a few cents per click. Clicks on other ads might bring you in 20c, 50c, or a dollar or more. It all depends on how much the advertiser had to pay for the ad.
  • Sometimes there might not be very many good ads on a page; and then suddenly there are lots of great ads from well known companies earning you more money! This can be because of seasonal demand for products, for example.

Adsense earnings examples
Let’s take a look at a few very different examples, so you can see the theory in practice!

If your website gets 20 visitors a day, and two people click on an ad (10%), and you get 15 cents a click, you will earn 30 cents a day. (Less than $10 a month.)

Or you may have 100 visitors, and ten people click on an ad (10% again), but you only get paid 5 cents per click. So you only get 50 cents a day. (Around $15 a month.)

Or you may have 500 visitors, and 100 people click on ads (20%), which are each worth an average of $1. You’d earn $100 that day. (A nice $3000 a month.)

Making money with Google Adsense can seem complicated to some; so let’s answer a few common questions:

Adsense questions

What’s the best way to get traffic and start making money with Google Adsense?
Your best course of action is to build a website about something you are interested in, and which you can write a lot about. A website with that enthusiastic human touch attracts traffic and recommendations from forums or social networks; you won’t get bored with it, so you’ll write more pages, which will attract more traffic.

I already have a website; can I put Google ads on it?
Only Google can tell you that – take a look at the Google Adsense site and check that your site is suitable.

How can I build a site that gets those high paying ads?
Some ads can pay you tons of money a click; ads about property, debt, some medical conditions, and internet marketing can earn you more than an ad about scrapbooking supplies. I guess!

But maybe your page on scrapbooking supplies gets hundreds of visitors a month, good ad clicks, and earns you a nice bit of dosh. Whereas that page over there about getting out of debt just can’t compete with all the thousands of other pages about the same thing, so it never gets any traffic and never earns that guy any money.

If you’re really into debt as a topic, find your niche within that niche; if you love what you do and are determined… who knows? I wouldn’t want to put you off.

But for most of us, it’s not worth choosing a hugely competitive topic you’re not the least bit interested in simply to start making money with Google Asense.

What Adsense really is about

Remember – it’s called Ad…sense! If you use your common sense, you’ll find that working with Google and its Adsense program is very worthwhile – which means not racing to make profits as your number one goal – but concentrating on your website’s theme and the very human visitors who are going to be reading your pages.

Google’s Adsense program really is about matching ads to content and visitors’ interests – so if you concentrate on your visitors, you’ll find Google does the rest ;)
